Microsoft Lens is gone. Verso stays.

In March 2026 Microsoft discontinued Lens — 90 million users without a scanner. Microsoft sends them to OneDrive. Verso is the more honest answer: local, no forced cloud, bought once.

What happened

Microsoft Lens was shut down on 9 March 2026. The recommended “alternative” is OneDrive — forced cloud, a Microsoft account, the scanner as an afterthought. Exactly what many never wanted about Lens.

What you're missing now

Local storage (OneDrive uploads everything). Word export. A scanner that only scans — not a cloud with a scanner bolted on. And fair pricing instead of a forced account.

How Verso solves it

Every scan is a file on your device — optionally in your iCloud, never on our servers. On-device text recognition, export as PDF or Word, automatic image clean-up. No account, no subscription. $4.99 once.

Why paid is better

Verso is a paid app by hyperzero, a small studio in Germany. No corporation shutting the service down after three years. You buy once — and it stays yours.
